The Beaches in Kythera


On Kythira there are numerous beaches with amazing, clean and crystal clear waters. You'll find cosmopolitan and crowded beaches and deserted as well with difficult access for those who want absolute silence! You will find beaches with sand and pebbles, beaches organized with umbrellas and cabins and beaches for those who want to do it all by themselves! There's no way you will find a beach or more correctly beaches on Kythera that will fail to satisfy even the most demanding visitor. The main beaches of Kythira are: 



Kapsali:  car access umbrellas - seats water-sports food - leizure
One of the most cosmopolitan beaches with easy access. Located next to Chora overlooking the Venetian Castle and Chytra. The beach is crowded with sun beds, umbrellas, water sports, taverns, cafes, bars, etc. The water is shallow and ideal for families with young children. Basically is consists of two beaches as seen in the photo. One beach, the "Front Gialos" is sandy with a few pebbles, while the other beach, the "Back Gialos" has more pebbles and so it is highly visited. 

Palaiopoli :   car access umbrellas - seats food - leizure
Located on the east coast near Avlemonas with very easy access. It is the largest beach of the island and has very fine sand with very thin pebbles. Its color is slightly reddish. It consists a fully organized beach with umbrellas, sunbeds, canteen and is suitable for water activities such as skiing, surfing, etc. Ideal for those who enjoy water sports and spending all day long in the sea! 






 Chalkos   
The beach is located southeast of the island near Kalamos. Access is by road which is only 4/5 of it paved. It is large with crystal clear turquoise waters and consists of sand and very small thin pebbles. Located in a bay surrounded by rocks formated from caves. During the summer offers the basic facilities for an organized beach with umbrellas, sunbeds and canteen. Ideal for those who like to enjoy an authentic landscape and have conveniences at the same time.

Agia Pelagia :    

The beach of Agia Pelagia is located on the northeastern coast of the island near in the village Agia Pelagia with easy access. It is one of the longest beaches of Kythira, lively and fully organized with sunbeds, umbrellas, parasols, bars, shops of various kinds, etc. It consists of small pebbles and sand with shallow water. Ideal for those on vacation like cosmopolitan life!

 Kaladi:    
Located eastern side of the island near the Palaiopoli. Easy access by car and then a path with stone steps. It is a pebble beach omega-shaped, with two small bays and a rock in the middle. It should not be left out from your vacation plans on Kythera! It resembles the world famous beach in Cyprus “Romeo’s Rock "




Melidonicar access  umbrellas - seats  food - leizure
Located south of the island near the village Drimonas with easy access on a dirt road. It is small and consists of red sand and fine pebbles. It is one of the busiest beaches of Kythira with umbrellas, loungers and bar with continuously organized beach parties every summer day. Perfect for the young or young at heart!

Plateia Ammos   
Located on the eastern side of the island and it is basically the homonymous coastal village of Kythera with easy access. It is of  medium size with fine thin sand. One of the most beautiful beaches with sun beds, umbrellas, taverns, etc. For those who want to combine the peace and comfort!

Firi Ammos (Agia Pelagia) :  

The beach is located on the northeast of the island near Agia Pelagia with easy access. It is a big beach with crystal clear waters and it consists mainly of pebbles and the typical red sand. An excellent alternative proposal for those who stay in the area of Agia Pelagia. 




Dhiakofti:   
The beach of Dhiakofti is located northeast of the island in the homonymous village, near the main port of Kythera. With shallow aquamarine water and with very fine thin white sand; there are also taverns, snack bars, cafes, traditionally homes built along this beach. For those who like the hustle and bustle!

  Komponada:       
  Located east of the island with easy access. Oversized beach and consists of sand and small and big pebbles, rocks, and has deep turquoise waters. From the most organized beaches with sun beds, umbrellas, bars, etc. Ideal for romantics who like to enjoy the fantastic sunrise!

Lagada:    
This beach is located on the east coast of the island near Agia Pelagia with an easy access by a dirt road. It is large with crystal clear waters and consists mainly of reddish sand and very thin pebbles. Bears a distinction of Blue Flag for its clean waters and the full facilities, i.e. sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, toilets, bars, etc. It is for the certain choices that no one should miss, especially because it is located in Agia Pelagia, where there are sequentially four beautiful beaches before Lagada.

Fournoi:   car access   

An isolated beach north of the island with relatively easy access by a  dirt road. It is small, sandy and with small pebbles. From the few isolated beaches of the island that is organized with sun beds, umbrellas, bars, etc. Ideal for people who want to combine peace and comfort!

Lykodemou:    
A deserted beach on the west coast near Logothetianika with easy access. It is small with sand and pebbles, while its water is deep. In the middle of the beach there is a picturesque cave. In summer there is a small canteen for a bite to eat or quench your thirst. If you have a small boat its jetty will allow you to tie it securely. Ideal for people who like privacy and shade from the cave on the beach!

Limnionas   
The beach is located west of the island near Mylopotamos with easy access. It is small with thin sand. Actually it is a bay with small houses used by anglers for accommodation and a picturesque traditional seafood tavern. Ideal for those who wish after their swimming to relax while enjoying the delights of a traditional tavern!

Avlemonas:    

The beach Avlemona is a picturesque bay in the center of the village with easy access. Ideal place for couples in love! but also for the entire family there are also some shops to sit to eat, drink or take coffee while viewing over the bay.

 Lake Palaiopolis:     
Located east of the island near the   Palaiopoli. Accessible with difficulty, only by sea or by road through the pebbly riverbed. It is one of the few secluded beaches, oversized and has small pebbles and sand. Considered as the nudist beach in Kythera. If you're a fan of nudism this beach is perfect for you! Next to the beach there is a small pond with clear water and reeds around. The landscape reminds of an oasis in the desert.


Sparangario:  Dirt Road
A hidden beach next to Kapsali, with access by footpath or by sea. It is the culmination of the stream that comes from the Chora, between two steep slopes, like a canyon. Suitable for people who want peace.

Lorenzo:  car access  
A deserted beach on the northeast of the island near Agia Pelagia, accessible by dirt road. It is small with red sand and pebbles. It features a small cave suitable to spend your entire day. Perfect for romantic couples who like to swim away from the crowds. Also called beach of the cave of Venus.

Vroulea:  
A desolated beach southeast of the island near Kalamos, accessible by dirt road or by sea. It is small with pebbles and small stones. It is a haven for fishing boats. Ideal for people who like to explore the seabed with a mask! 


Feloti:   Dirt Road
A deserted beach south of the island, accessible by dirt road or by sea. It is small with pebbles and rocks. It is a haven for fishing boats. Ideal for people who want to stay overnight on the beach!

Chitra:  
It is mainly an impressive rocky islet south of the island, opposite Kapsali. Accessible only by boat. It is shaped like a pyramid and at the south there is a large cave with fantastic blue and violet water and a small idyllic beach. Ideal for those who want their swimming to be an unprecedented and unforgettable experience

 Kyriakoulou :  
A desolated beach south of the island, accessible by a pathway or by sea. It is small sized beach consisting of pebbles, rocks, and deep cold waters. Ideal for people who want to swim calmly! 

 Limnaria:  

A desolated beach west of the island, accessible by dirt road or by sea. It is small rocky beach with deep blue water. It is a haven for fishing boats. Ideal for people who want to travel by boat! 


Lake Kakia Lagada : car access 
The beach located on the east coast of the island near Agia Pelagia with relatively easy access, but a dirt road. It is small with crystal waters and consists of large and small pebbles. Next to the beach there is a lake whose water is not very deep. This is impressive because the beach is formed at the end of the stunning gorge that reaches Paleochora, the Byzantine capital of Kythira.

Agios Nikolaos :    
The beach is located Northwest, near the lighthouse of Moudari with difficult access by dirt road. It is a small beach, isolated, very rocky, but also with thin pebble and sand. Nearby is the picturesque church of St. Nicholas from which it got its name. A water canyon  ends up to the beach ends with water almost until March. Ideal for those who combine tranquility with a riot of colors.


Agios Leftheris:  

The beach located west of the island near the Logothetianika, is a small but beautiful deserted beach of pebbles surrounded by huge rocks. Ideal for those who enjoy the sunset in the absolute serenity of the desert landscape.




Firi Ammos (kalamos) :   
This beach located in the southeast of the island near Kalamos with relatively easy access. It is large with crystal clear waters and is mainly composed of red sand and small pebbles. The last two years the sand of the beach has been reduced due to strong winds carrying large quantities of sand to other coastal areas. Probably in a short time this temporary change of scenery will be restored.


Routsounas :  
A deserted beach northwest of the island near Gerakari with very difficult access by dirt road. Medium sized with pebbles, rocks and deep water. In the coast there is a source of running water. Ideal for people who like isolation and diving in the clear blue waters.

Kalami :   
The beach is located west of the island. Accessible by sea and by walking up a steep and difficult path that leads to the beach. It is small and has pebbles. In the bottom there are sunken old cannons. Ideal beach for sporty types who want to relax away from the crowds!


Vlihada:   

The beach is on the east part, near Kaladi inaccessible by car, accessible only by a small path and mainly by boat. It is a small beach, secluded, very rocky with pebbles and shingle and very deep waters. Ideal for those who own a boat and love diving in the blue waters.
